WORKSHOPS
WORKSHOP 1 | Wunda Chair
The Wunda Chair is often said to be the most challenging apparatus to teach.
MeJo was fortunate to personally learn the Wunda Chair directly from Romana during her 15 years as an apprentice. Since 2003 as a Teacher Trainer for Romana, Romana would often send her to other studios to help teachers and apprentices understand the details of looking at a body in motion on the chair. This workshop will review some of the most commonly taught exercises on the Wunda Chair addressing different bodies and how they may need to adjust in order to get the most benefit. You will learn to spot some of the most common mistakes students make, and see the best place to spot your student so you know the work is being initiated and maintained from the correct area. Your hands are critical in getting your students to work harder! (2.5 hours)
WORKSHOP 2 | Baby Arm Chair
Workshop description to be added soon
WORKSHOP 3 | Advanced Reformer with Variations
When working with Advanced students on the Reformer, Romana would often give variations of an exercise to keep us focused, alert, and to add a challenge to the workout.
This workshop will review the Advanced Reformer as Romana taught, and introduce some of the variations you can use to challenge and have fun with your students. (2.5 hours)
WORKSHOP 4 | Using the System to Address Scoliosis
Each student with scoliosis is uniquely different.
Under Romana’s guidance, MeJo has worked with hundreds of students with varying degrees of scoliosis, and has used the Classical Pilates Method to help realign and correct them. This workshop will talk about different types of scoliosis, what to look for as a teacher, and more importantly what to do to help them with their imbalances. You will see the importance of using the full system to address this population. (2 hours)
NOTE: Subjects, descriptions and the content of the workshops
and classes can be adapted to the group, the participants and the teacher
WUNDA CLASSES (max.7p)
We know Joe Pilates never taught “Wunda Chair Class”, however classes are becoming more and more popular in the pilates community.
Mejo will teach you how to teach a Wunda Chair Class and still keep it within the classical framework. You can then introduce this into your studio either in a duet, or a larger class. MeJo will take you through a Beginner, Intermediate, and an Advanced Wunda Chair class. Get ready to workout, take notes, learn some new variations, and see how you can still maintain seamless transitions and flow on your Wunda Chair.
(3 x 45 min / group – Max 7p – Others can observe)
MAT CLASSES (max.15p)
Mejo will teaches 1 class full of classical variations the way she learned it from Romana.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Classical Pilates is more than a repertoire of exercises. It is a unique exercise system that combines mind and body under the guidance of a teacher who possesses knowledge, skill and intuition to better balance one’s body. The best Pilates instructors not only possess these qualities, but also teach organically with a keen eye, their hands for proper placement and positioning and concise verbal cues to teach a system tailored to individual needs.
EACH SEMINAR WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Discussing the details of specific exercises
to help you better understand their goals and progressions. - Explaining why we modify or vary an exercise for an individual.
- Teach you how to assess a student’s body; their strengths,
weaknesses, misalignments and imbalances; and how to correct them. - Review the basic principles of movement and teaching that Joe intended for his Method.
- Teaching effective spotting and cueing, unique to the Classical Method
that can be adapted to individual needs. - You will learn how to select specific exercises
and put together a system that will benefit your student the most. - To discuss the specific Contrology and Gratz™
device and explain why it is such an integral part of the Classical Pilates Method.
MeJo taught in her own studio and oversaw some 400 private lessons a week (with Romana as her personal mentor) and gained experience in applying the Method to different populations, including: professional athletes, people with chronic back pain, amputees, Parkinson’s disease, knee injuries, scoliosis and many other conditions.
In this unique series, MeJo will share her years of study with several first-generation instructors, including Romana Kryzanowska, Sari Mejia Santos, Kathy Grant, Edwina Fontaine and Jay Grimes. She will provide valuable training from her years of study with Romana, her personal experience teaching the Method to different populations and her experience as a Teacher Trainer in Romana’s Pilates Instructor Training Programme.
